JJOY at Armania Phuket
John Refalo, known professionally as JJoy, is Malta’s premier DJ and producer, with a career spanning over two decades. His big break came with the Joy party series, which launched on June 28, 1997, at the Westin Reef Club, where he impressed a crowd of 6,000 with a masterful four-hour set. This led to numerous bookings and performances alongside top artists like Faithless, Snoop Dogg, Hardwell, and Calvin Harris.
JJoy’s skillful blending of electro, house, trance, and techno earned him a reputation for creating dynamic sets. His influence grew as he consistently featured in the top DJ lists and was awarded numerous titles, such as Malta’s No. 1 DJ and Malta’s Best DJ, across various years. He’s also known for his award-winning radio show, Joyride, which aired on multiple stations, including Live FM, Radio 101, and XFM 100.2.
In addition to his DJ career, JJoy’s event promotion company, Rype and Real Muzik, is renowned for organizing successful events with attendances of over 4,500 people. He made history by hosting simultaneous events on Malta and Gozo, and his Joy Classix Weekend party became a significant annual fixture.
JJoy’s production work is a testament to his versatility and adaptability. Notable tracks such as "Rush" with Jan Johnston, which received international acclaim, and "Love Is No Possession" with Kirsty Hawkshaw, showcase his ability to create diverse and appealing music. His work has been supported by major DJs and charted on platforms like the World DMC Buzz Chart. Recent releases like "King of the Night" and "Loving You" with Christina Novelli, both of which won Best Dance Tune at the Bay Music Awards, further demonstrate his wide appeal.
In recent years, JJoy has continued to expand his reach globally, performing at festivals and shows in countries like Aruba and across Europe. With upcoming releases on CR2 Records and collaborations with leading vocalists, JJoy’s influence in the EDM scene remains robust and continually evolving.
